· Placing the meter assembly requires no special tools or electricity. · Use utility staff to install meters at street level. · Canvas a problem area with many meters, economically. · Meter installation is simple. No need to hire a contractor. · Scout meters hang in the flow, just touching the manhole invert. · The support tube is extended with 3/4" CPVC pipe and couplings. · As meter wiggles in the flow, ragging is sloughed off. · Desiccant lasts about 6 weeks and is replaced at ground level. · Collect flow depth, temperature and sensor tilt/shift data. · Light weight, durable, 125,000 records without battery change. · Wireless data collection using hand-held computer Data Management: The purpose of the data management is to help users manage and organize all the data required. It organizes all the data required for performing the analysis and system capacity assessment. The external data sources may include data from flow monitoring, rainfall and hydraulic analysis. This data is gathered and the files along with precipitation and total collection system flow data, are sent back to USC over the internet. The files are prepared and sent back for analysis. Once and I&I site is determined, the selection of rehabilitation or replacement method should be tailored to prevent the causes of the ground water migration. Upon completion of the rehabilitation work, post-flow monitoring confirms whether the expected amount of I&I was removed. However, the responsibility for cost effective solutions now rests within the ranks of the utility staff, and not necessarily by outside consultants. The process is iterative and therefore requires management personnel to stay focused to shift meters to affected areas combined with consistent evaluation of the flow data. As a consequence, the problems become a process which compliment evaluation steps typically found in a preventative maintenance and capacity assurance program. FloViz Analysis Tool: What is FloViz? This Preparation and Innovative Tool Compliments a Successful I&I Reduction Program. FloViz was designed to allow rapid and convincing visualization of wet weather flow behavior without managing large data files. Visualization is a chief feature that allows viewing data from the entire collection system, based on placement of the flow monitors. Scrolling through the data at synchronized time intervals produces the affect of a time lapse movie. Using three dimensional viewing, one can quickly identify the manholes first responding to rain. Later, as the influence of infiltration subsides, some manholes will show elevated flow depths while the remainder of the collection system has returned to normal flow levels. When isolating I&I, a view of the entire meter deployment aids in identifying sites meriting further evaluation. As seen in the chart above, some areas do not respond to the onset of rain, other manholes change immediately after the rain begins. As an indicator of changing velocity, sensor tilt/shift also supports the presence of upstream infiltration. Meters placed in storm culverts corroborate ground water flows supporting infiltration or inflow. Based on the flow reaction to rain, I&I is “the unwelcome guest that arrives early and/or stays late. Features: · View 50 data sets at once. · Sort data by flow hierarchy. · Rescale any axis. · Time synchronized. · Export view to EXCEL. · Mark points, values. · Change series color, style. · Spin, tilt Data Cube in 3D. · Scroll data in movie fashion. · Windows compatible |
